The laboratory consists of eight purpose designed operating stations, and is comprehensively equipped with surgical instruments, power drills, endoscopes, suction devices and electro-cautery.
The facility also offers four high definition surgical microscopes and image guided navigation complemented by two C-arm fluoroscopes and a sophisticated ‘O-Arm’, making the facility unrivalled on the continent.
In addition the facility includes two state-of-the-art high fidelity simulators with vital signs that respond to a range of stimuli in the same way a live patient would.
Tissue Lab
The Tissue Lab is a fully customisable 8-surgical station dissection environment. Each station is equipped with state-of-the-art surgical technology, designed to simulate a functional operative theatre. Surgical beds, lights, vacuum, high-speed drills, endoscopes and cautery are among the tools available to perform surgical procedures with the care and precision one would do in the real operating room.
Mounts, braces and cushioning provide the ability to replicate the surgical set-up necessary to deliver world-class surgical care. Hand instruments and specialized micro-instruments coupled with high-magnification operative microscopes support the training of super-specialized procedures.
Simulation Lab
Non-human tissue based training is undertaken in the Simulation Lab. Equipped with two scenario programmable human simulators – nurses, doctors, paramedics and students are exposed to critical care conditions. Real time management with the use of emergency equipment, ventilators and defibrillation is evaluated with measurable end-point results.
Laparoscopic training simulators are available to teach basic and advanced scope skills. The award-winning LapVR simulator helps endoscopists perfect their skills and improve surgical outcomes.
AV, Imaging & Surgical Navigation
Sunskill was designed from the outset to make use of cutting-edge AV systems for training and recording education sessions. Multiple high-definition screens and projectors allow the various training sessions to be shared and critiqued.
Two fully functional regulated low-intensity C-Arm image intensifiers are available to assess placement of instrumentation. A world-first O-Arm is on-hand to provide CT quality images and support guidance placed implants.
Two stereotactic navigation systems are available to support trainees in their quest to achieve the perfect surgical outcome.
